Junto a los Nebula y los Hugo, los premios Locus son los más ilustres y prestigiosos de la literatura de fantasía y ciencia-ficción, y entre sus galardonados sobresalen nombres indispensables del género como Larry Niven, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, Ursula K. LeGuin, Lois McMaster Bujold, Connie Willis o Orson Scott Card, entre muchos otros. Recientemente se han hecho públicos los nominados en la edición del año 2012.
Los premios Locus son unos premios literarios que comenzaron a entregarse en 1971, siendo los ganadores elegidos por los lectores de la revista norteamericana “Locus Magazine” editada por Charles N. Brown. Su competencia con los Nebula y los Hugo ya forma parte del género, puesto que se entregan en fechas diferentes, con categorías diferentes y, casi siempre, con autores premiados difeentes.
Los ganadores se darán a conocer durante la próxima Science Fiction Awards Weekend en Seattle, del 15 al 17 de Junio, y sucederán en el palmarés a Connie Willis por “Blackout”, China Miéville por “Kraken”, N.K. Jemisin por “Los Cien Mil Reinos”, Neil Gaiman por “The Thing About Cassandra” y “The Truth Is a Cave in the Black Mountains”, o Paolo Bacigalupi por “Ship Breaker” que fueron algunos de los ilustres ganadores de los premios Locus del 2011.
